Is spell check really here?

My rep says that spell checkkking is incorporated in the blogging tool, but I don't see it on the icon bar and it doesn't seem to be highlight my spellllllling mistakes either.

Profiles

I found a different time-zone selection option in the Edit Profile area. This one is much more satisfactory.

No Spell check.

Doesn't have as many category like sections for skills, interests or responsibilities. Not sure if that is good or bad, just a comment.

Activities

Much disappointment so far in this area.  ToDos don't have options I am used to using like Start Date and priority. There doesn't seem to be a way to sort them on these options even if they were available. I have to click on hot-spots to get all the options, every time I create a new todo.

I looked at the templates section and there were none. I tried to create a template but it seemed to be more for similar todos rather than a design template that would allow me to add fields or capabilities.

Just in general, I would like to see design tools for customizing screens and adding capabilities that could be deployed at a divisional or enterprise level.

Keep in mind I am commenting as I go (Blog like) and expect to find solutions or alternatives to some of these comments as I look deeper into the product, or I get comments from others.

Introduction

I am taking my first look at IBM Connections as part of my company's evaluation of Social Media products. We hope to make a decision sometime this year on which product to use for internal use. In this blog, I will make comments / suggestions on what I find as I use the product. Feel free to comment if I seem to have missed something.

We currently have a SharePoint (MOSS) site available internally. We will also have a QUICKR test environment set up soon (I hope).

What I like.

  1. The help environment
  2. The Blog statistics (at least what I read about them, more after I see the results).

What I don't like (so far)

  1. The superflous time zone options with the wierd options. Just have one America / US Central Time Zone plus any others that differ. Provide an option somewhere for state or region if you think that information would be useful. If you really need to have all of those options, change the sort order to put all similar time zones together instead of sorting by city.
  2. Lack of spell check for blog creation.
  3. Text options are not as robust as SharePoint, for instance a button to increase text size would be nice.

Other

  1. Keyboard option would be a nice addition to the tooltips (Ctrl-B for Bold).
