Notes 8.5 standard configuration and data folder o...

Has anyone had success getting the Notes 8.5 standard config client to work when a user's data folder resides on a file server? If you use the basic configuration, all works well. However, the standard client won't open. The splash screen appears, and in task manager the notes.exe and nlnotes.exe exist, but the notes2.exe never executes. What also happens is that the lotus\notes\data\workspace\.config folder gets renamed to .configbak (why?), but a new .config folder cannot be created because it is using a / slash for the directory name (where this is coming from I haven't a clue). I am using an account with full admin rights so it's not a permissions issue.

Domino 8.5 server issues continue

OK this is getting old. Seems as soon as we fix one issue with our production Domino 8.5 mail server, another issue arises. Today the server crashed and restarted itself from 4AM until 8AM (when I got the resolution from IBM support) once an hour due to Panic: unexpected internal error returned to logger errors. Find out this is caused by corrupted transaction log files so I have to disable transaction logging and create new ones. It was just 2 weeks ago I had to rebuild the server from the base code and apply a new hotfix to address HTTP memory issues. When will the madness end! (Can you tell I'm releasing some frustration here). Don't get me wrong, I love working with Lotus Domino, but I'm getting tired defending it to my management. Tell me I'm not the only one facing these type of issues...

Notes 8.5 standard client upgrade in Citrix enviro...

It took awhile, but finally got the Notes 8.5 standard client upgrade working for our Citrix users. The challenge was due to the fact that we place the user's data folder on a network share. In order to accomplish this, first I had to copy the 8.5 data folder that was created on the Citrix server to the user's data folder overwriting any existing templates. Next, I changed the properties of the Notes 8.5 icon to use the user's data folder to find the notes.ini file (ex. \\servername\users$\%username%\lotus\notes\data\notes.ini and also made sure that the Start In: field said C:\Lotus\notes\framework/.. We'll be placing a txt file in the user's data folder so that when the login script runs, if it finds the txt file it continues on, if not it will copy the data fiiles from a shared location into the user's data folder. Now just have to wait for McAfee Antivirus software to be upgraded on all our Citrix servers.

Semaphore errors with Domino 8.5

Barbara Skedel  |     |  Tags:  semaphore 8.5 domino  |  Comments (9)
Ever since upgrading our production mail server to Domino 8.5 (with HF1), the server goes into Panic mode once a day with the following error: PANIC: Insufficient semaphores to handle number of concurrent owned critical regions. I have a PMR open with Lotus support, but was curious if anyone else has seen this issue before and had any suggestions on how to resolve. Already added max_session_timeout= 60  to the notes.ini as well as NSF_BUFFER_POOL_SIZE_MB=651.
