Document Management

David A Clover |   | Tags:  management macudoc document | Comments (1)  |  Visits (143)
About 9 years ago we developed our own in-house Document Management system which we called 'MaCuDoc'. It's stil going strong and works really well

It's a simple-minded but effective Notes client front-end to a back-end and very conventional Windows NetBIOS filing system. Now that we've seen the new release of 'Documentum' I think it stands up even better in terms of simplicity and workflow.

We are thinking of making this tool available to others. Any interest out there at all I wonder? It does need a bit of a 'blue rinse' by a Notes expert I think. I reckon it could be web-enabled if one had the time and used WebDAV as the transport.

There's a descriptive website including a video runthrough at:

Home-grown Intranet

David A Clover |   | Tags:  intranet | Comments (0)  |  Visits (84)
We've developed a single dB Intranet application which is very flexible and extensible. You can see a bit of it at:
http://mctintranet.open.ac.uk

though without a campus login account you can't go far of course.

the management interface is easy to use and we can also allow 'wiki' style editing by our users.

We are thinking of sharing this with others on an OpenNTF basis - is there any interest in this at all?

You can see more on my office blog at:

http://mct.open.ac.uk/IT-Dev-Blog.nsf/dx/faculty-intranet-delivered.htm

and you can search for 'intranet' there to see other articles about the gestation of it.

Installed 8.5.1 client - server to come

David A Clover |   | Tags:  8.5.1 bit windows 7 64 | Comments (0)  |  Visits (146)
I've installed Notes 8.5.1 on my full version Windows 7 64 bit machine (8Gb memory) and it's all pretty much fine and fast. mac users also report a stable and faster experience on their systems (though still no Designer/Admin available for that platform I note)

Only one immediate issues is that it no longer allows me to use a single signon against my Windows PC Domain login. The agent which allowed this on XP and Vista 32 bit doesn't seem to work on W7 64 bit so I have to login to Notes each time it starts up.

As with Vista which I had before, I still can't 'drag and drop' items between the Windows desktop and a Notes document - again, a missing feature that is very valuable.

But otherwise, it is running very quickly andis stable - the Designer in particular seems quicker to start (though it isn't as fast as it was before Eclipse I have to say.

I'm going to hold on the server update till I see more posts here - the first 8.5 Domino version caused havoc with our IMAP clients and this crashed the server until a hot-fix was delivered by IBM. We make a lot of use of IMAP so stability here is particularly important to us.

My 'Work' blog is tucked away on a Notes 8.0.1 template at http://mcs-notes2.open.ac.uk/IT-Dev-Blog.nsf/ - you are welcome to look at it, though a lot of stuff there isn't of much public interest - still, there we go!

Enjoying the Bleed Yellow experience certainly!
