Anyone Successfully Using 8.5x, TxL, DAOS and Veritas Net Backup?

Dan Lynch  |     |  Comments (4)
Is anyone successfully running 8.5/8.5.1 with TxL, DAOS and using Veritas Net Backup for backups and restores?

We are attempting to in DEV, but with archival TxL's, common, point in time restores are taking very, very long (20+ hours), and the specific behavior of rolling through the TxL's forwards then backwards to do the restore, has both IBM and Symantec (through an open ESR) scratching their heads and unable to explain.

If you are running this configuration successfully, and can do a point in time restore (from nightly incrementals with archival TxL's) please let us know if you have seen this issue, and if you have, how you may have overcome this issue, or not as the case may be.

Many thanks in advance.

are you using DAOS? I heared its not supported from Veritas... How do you implemented it and how do you backup it?

regards

Bastian

2 Dan Lynch      Permalink Bastian;

We are trying to get it to work in our lab, and not having any luck with the restore aspects. Veritas has suggested it is supported, albeit without the capability to coordinate the NSF and NLO backups seamlessly with the latest/greatest NBU client (6.5.4 I think).

It's been difficult and we've been working to get Veritas and IBM to work together to figure this out, but so far, nothing has come if it.

Thx, Dan

3 Steve Watts      Permalink Hi Dan,
The rolling through the TxL's forward is the redo phase and the backwards is the Undo/abort phase. If there are any transactions that had not reached their commit point by the time the point in time is reached we have to abort them. Do you have a PMR opened ? If so, if you upload the TxL's (assuming there are only the 63 extents) you can have the IBM service person let me know that they are there.
