10 minutes left in the Opening General Session and I don't think there's even been a mention of Lotus Domino.
Sad. Very sad.

I highly recommend the Lotusphere Online site this year for taking a look at the sessions and getting your agenda planned out. I highly doubt I'll be able to make everything on here, primarily the BOFs, but I'm going to try and make them. The worst day of scheduling was actually Sunday where there were three JumpStart sessions I won't be able to make that I would like to attend.

Technote: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=899&uid=swg21294946
"Working as designed" sucks. Tell me, is it easier for a user to go to the Sametime website and find their meeting from there or launch Notes to get to their calendar and find a link that way? Why can't it be an option to keep it Unlisted or to make it as a Listed meeting when you choose to make an Online Meeting in your Notes calendar?
Thanks to Chris Whisonant for the technote link.

I ran the DAOS Estimator Tool back in late January and loved the estimated savings it showed: 85.4 GB.
I held off on using it at first to see what issues others might have encountered with it and eventually began enabling a few mail databases a day over the last month or so and I've finally finished with all the mail databases.
Actual savings so far: 89.047 GB
I set DAOS up to only look at attachments over 128KB. I might cut that in half just to see how much more that would save me. I'll be sure to update when I have all the applications DAOS enabled and also if I do drop the attachment file size down.

I'm obviously excited the most about 8.5.1. Some of you might have read the post from last week about leaving 8.5 because of the way the Designer client "works" and I'm dying to try 8.5.1 to see if those issues have been fixed. I saw some of the 8.5.1 Designer demo'd at Lotusphere and I loved the way the code commenting worked and all the awesome new things they had in the LS editor. Hopefully when the beta opens up to more people I'll be lucky enough to be able to try it. Oh, and the client will have XPage support. Can't wait.
Along with that announcement, Ed has one regarding OpenNTF and another about the promotional discounts on new Notes/iNotes licenses.

I've been using it since the week it was released but I can't handle 8.5 DDE anymore.
I'm tired of the focus getting stolen.
I'm tired of selecting some piece of code, like a variable name, and hitting ctrl+c to copy it and ctrl+v to paste it later in the code to find out I just copied and pasted an email.
I'm tired of clearly being in a design element, such as a script library, writing something and pressing ctrl+s to save and DDE doesn't save it. I go click the save icon in the toolbar hoping for it to actually do what it's supposed to but do get the same result, nothing.
I'm tired of seeing "You cannot add a directory to your workspace" when clicking a link in the Designer Help NSF (yes, not a DDE issue but instead a 8.5 Client issue).
While I will miss the Application View and the Perspectives, it's not worth it for me. Hopefully 8.5.1 will be a quality release that doesn't hinder me trying to work.

They didn't just lose, they got embarrassed. Losing 10-2, while never good, wouldn't have seemed as bad if they had given up a run an inning or scattered the runs allowed through the game. Instead, they give up 9 runs in the 7th.
Way to go Yanks...

I heard about this yesterday and thought it was a great idea. One of the things President Obama mentioned during his campaign was " hope" and I have hope that some good will come of this.
Red Envelope Day
Put your name and return address on a red envelope to ensure delivery. Address the envelope to:
President Barack Obama The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. -
On the back of this sealed EMPTY red envelope write the following:
This envelope represents one child who died in abortion. It is empty because that life was unable to offer anything to the world. Responsibility begins with conception.
Affix 1st class postage and mail it this Tuesday, March 31, 2009.

I meant to post this back in late January when they fixed the estimator tool for iSeries but never remembered to do so. Anyway, this is the estimated savings from a production Mail/Application server running 8.5 on a i5 520 that's on V6R1. Total Size of NSF's Examined: 216.3 GB Total Disk Savings: 85.4 GB
Almost 40% savings (39.48% to be exact). That alone is reason enough to move to Domino 8.5 but combine that with the 28.3% we saw going from 7.x to 8.0.1 and that's a VERY compelling reason to upgrade from pre-8.0 releases to 8.5.

And I mean the new revolving doors instead of the old doors that opened to the sides.

I couldn't find anything on the Notes 8 Forums or the Domino 8 Admin Help. I found it in the Domino Admin 8.5 Help but this server is still on 8.0.2. Will I need to upgrade to 8.5 to be able to set it as a policy or am I just not finding the setting it in the 8.0.2 release?
Thanks for any help/links/suggestions!

For the most part, I love the new Designer client in 8.5. I absolutely love the way they changed the Design elements area where you can expand the entire list of forms/views/etc and scroll through them instead of just showing a few and having to scroll through each section individually. I like how you can drag-and-drop the " Eclipse Views" around to change where your information is and especially being able to tab them onto a different area. I love the Perspectives you can customize and the new Working Sets for your applications.
There are a few annoyances I've encountered, one of which I think is due to new mail notification in the status bar, but this is probably the one that bugs me the most.
I'm already missing the font dropdown selection from previous versions. Is there a preference out there that I can set so that it will show 10-15 different choices instead of just five? Yes, I'm aware I can click into the dropdown and press "V" to take me to the Vs or "C" to go to the Cs but I'd still like to see more then five fonts when hitting the dropdown.
