I'm reverting back to 8.0.2 from 8.5
I've been using it since the week it was released but I can't handle 8.5 DDE anymore.
I'm tired of the focus getting stolen.
I'm tired of selecting some piece of code, like a variable name, and hitting ctrl+c to copy it and ctrl+v to paste it later in the code to find out I just copied and pasted an email.
I'm tired of clearly being in a design element, such as a script library, writing something and pressing ctrl+s to save and DDE doesn't save it. I go click the save icon in the toolbar hoping for it to actually do what it's supposed to but do get the same result, nothing.
I'm tired of seeing "You cannot add a directory to your workspace" when clicking a link in the Designer Help NSF (yes, not a DDE issue but instead a 8.5 Client issue).
While I will miss the Application View and the Perspectives, it's not worth it for me. Hopefully 8.5.1 will be a quality release that doesn't hinder me trying to work.

Sad to hear that.
Good part is that designer 851 will have fixes for selection
related issues.
Selection fixes will fix above mentioned scenarios.
By the way - it will be good to know if you are always able to
reproduce above scenarios. If yes - it might be good candidate for
hotfix/sidepack. Do let us know.
Thanks.
To be honest 8.0.2 isn't that much better. I clearly remember copy & paste thingy not working properly. Also, it crashed way too
many times for my liking.
As far as 8.5 goes... Far from perfect. Java views in client too
often get temporarily corrupted when you are looking at a
view/folder with loads of documents and delete them when read.
Loading time, though, is way better.
I'm so relieved to hear it's not just me experiencing these problems. If I had access to the 8.02 Designer / Admin install then I'd join you in reverting back.
I'd add to your list having to double click on items in the
lefthand Applications list, such as Forms and Views, whilst
double-clicking on "Code" does nothing, you have to single-click on
the twistie.
@1 - I'll do some testing. Fairly certain I can reproduce the focus being stolen and I know the "You cannot add a directory..." error can be reproduced. As far as the copy/paste, I'm not sure.
@2 - Yes, but I can run the Designer Client in Basic mode which
will fix all of the problems. =)
@Jerry - Thanks for feedback on double click on "code" not opening up. We will look into to.
@David - Interesting to know that you know how to launch designer
in basic mode. Thanks for doing testing.
I completely agree. It's SO nice working in the old Designer, and such a relief when I end up there instead of using 8.5 crud. But someone mentioned there's a way to get to the basic designer in 8.5? Do tell...
I completely agree. I have both 8.0 and 8.5 installed. I use 8.5 only for new xPages development. If I know I'm going to be working on non xPages for any length of time - I load 8.0.
If it wasn't for a big project I'm doing in xPages - I would not be
using 8.5 at all. But the lure of xPages is making me suffer
through 8.5 DDE.
I can not wait for 8.5.1. I just pray that it's stable.
@3 Jerry -- In recent builds of Designer 8.5.1, you can double-click the categories (like Code) in the Applications list, which will open that category. (Thanks Maureen!) I hope you will try the 8.5.l Beta when it comes out. You'll find many improvements.
