Thanks!

Interesting Issue With Mail Moves and ODS48

Chris Whisonant |   | Tags:  mail database moves ods48 | Comments (1)  |  Visits (790)
Recently I have run into an issue with moving users (specifically the "Accelerated Create Replica" AdminP request) from 7.x or earlier to 8.x servers. The new replica that gets created on the 8.x server is not at ODS48. The CREATE_R8_DATABASES=1 setting is correct on all servers. I have checked with IBM and this is similar to an internal technote.

So, in the meantime, I have whipped up some code to find databases not at ODS48, dump them into an Indirect File, and run a compact -v -n -c on them to enable design and "body" compression and perform the copy-style compact to update it to the new On-Disk Structure. :)

IBM Soliciting Feedback on Domino Policies

Chris Whisonant |   | Tags:  domino policies notes administration | Comments (0)  |  Visits (829)
At the official IBM Domino Blog, Andrea Waugh-Metzger has asked for feedback on how you use (or don't use) Domino Policies. Here are the questions that you should go answer:

So, policies can really help make your administrative life much, much easier and can help you control a significant portion of your environment.  So let me ask you a couple questions...
  1. Do you use policies in your organization today?
  2. If so, how do you have them implemented?  Is it by OU?  By groups of users?  Or just one big policy?
  3. What do you leverage policies for?
  4. What would you like to see done with policies?
  5. What questions do you have about policies and/or how they work?

I know that I've seen Domino Policies severely underused by most companies. So, do you use policies?

Notice a similarity?

I've been meaning to post this for a while. I noticed that at around the same time I started seeing the new design for Notes 8.0.2 and 8.5 startup improvements that something very similar also started happening when logging into Gmail. Does it look familiar to you as well? :)

Re: Another problem with the document table map property

In response to: Another problem with the document table map property

Chad, thanks for posting this information that I've personally seen happen (unfortunately it was on a NAB!). Thanks for letting us all know that this particular issue with the "Optimize document table map" property should be fixed in 8.0.3. Does this seem to happen more when the database is replicated with pre-8.0.2 servers? It seems that some of the customers in the forum (and my client as well) saw this issue when the database was replicated with 8.0.1 or earlier servers. I'm cross-posting this comment to my blog as well.
