This tip is always popular...

Chris Whisonant

...really popular!! Every time I tell someone this they flip out!

To make manual mail archiving easier, all you have to do is create a folder in your mail file titled "Archive" (with the capital "A" ). Then just drag and drop any emails into that folder. If you have archive settings enabled for your mail file, you will be asked if you would like to archive the documents! The archiving process will be initiated and the documents will be removed from the live mail file (if configured this way) and the Archive folder will be empty. It's just something super swank that Lotus has done.

1 Chris Whisonant      Permalink Debbie if you have a message in folder B and drag it to the folder Archive then it is archived into folder B in the archive db!

2 Debbie Farley      Permalink My users are very adamant about having their archived messages match the folder location in their active mail database. Is I'm assuming that messages moved to the Archive folder will be in the Archive folder in the archive database, or just in the All Documents view, like in R5. Is that correct?

3 Chris Whisonant      Permalink Mark, I've used this with 7.0 client - it's really just a client function. I'm not sure how far back this works, though, but it's definitely not just an 8.0.1 thing.

4 Mark Dowling      Permalink Chris - what server/client/template rev do you need for this? 8.0.1 all the way or is this previously implemented?

5 Chris Whisonant      Permalink Gary - ouch!! This appears to actually be a bug in the Eclipse client and/or java views. When I close Notes and open just nlnotes.exe (basic), then I can archive multiple documents.

6 Gary Cousins      Permalink Works in 8.01 but only alows one document at a time.

7 Phil Randolph      Permalink Thanks for letting us know about this. I hadn't been aware of that particular function.

Set it up, used it, love it!

8 Fred Janssen      Permalink Tested: Works like a charm.

Great stuff, thanks Chris!

9 Fred Janssen      Permalink Tested: Works like a charm.

Great stuff, thanks Chris!

10 Kim Greene      Permalink They say you learn something new every day. This means I'm done for the day now! What a great tip, I will definitely be sharing this one with my customers, thanks for sharing!
