Social Networking at Work

Our organization is going to be "beta" testing Lotus Connections soon and I found this site in one of my tech news feeds and thought this would be a good opportunity to take Connections for a spin.   Change occurs slowly around these parts,  for a number of reasons I won't go into.  The current corporate intranet portal leaves much to be desired, and in my view is more or less an elaborate bookmarking tool (and not a very good one).  Even though the vision is for a centralization of all data, a kind of "one stop shop" paradigm we have a long way to go to approach that goal.  Content is still atomized, scattered and there is yet no cohesive taxonomy present.

I'm hoping that Connections will have a feature set and functionality that my employer can use to move the work force into a more "Web 2.0" environment.

Philip, thanks for stopping by and blogging! Feel free to post any questions here or email me. Connections is a great platform and will surely get better with time. You're facing what a lot of organizations face - the slow adoption of social software. So don't get down! :)
