Profile documents in trouble

Urs Meli |   | Tags:  documents 8.0.1 notes profile | Comments (3)  |  Visits (258)
Today I ran into an issue with profiledocuments under 8.0.1.
A notes "intranet portal" (multi-server) application developed for 6.5 worked as stable as it was designed.
A year after the server and client upgrade to 8.0.1 some strange errors occure. Systemprofile documents get lost, can't access userprofile fields.

The application loads 3 forms into a frameset. These forms have all a location field wich basically makes a @getprofilefield("Userprofile";"CurrentLocation";@username). This works fine.
Inside one frame, the user can open another notes form with the same location field. The second location field doesn't get the @getprofilefield. It's just empty....
After some navigating through the application and getting back to the startpage, the form with the empty field suddenly has the field filled with the correct value.
And I thought that only writing to profiledocuments can be troublesome.....

Think I have to replace the profiledocuments with real notes documents. Because tests with 8.5.1 revealed the same issue.

Does anyone still use profiledocuments in 8? or does anybody have similar problems with profile documents?

Hi
I just switched from my developer id to my normal user id in Notes 8.5 FP1.
What is missing in the following picture?

Where are my toolbars? Switching id's while the designer client is open has still some suprises.......
Hope that will be fixed in 8.5.1

Quickr Connector HF11 vs. me

Urs Meli |   | Tags:  notes sidebar connector 8.5 quickr | Comments (1)  |  Visits (1,033)

Yesterday I had to Install the quickr connector on an upgraded Notes 8.5 client.  At my pc everything went fine, ran qkrconn.exe rebooted, sidebar was visible.

At my customers pc I ran qkrconn.exe, rebooted, no sidebar in Notes. So I checked the ususal sources for a solution "google", notes.net, etc. No hint helped.

After some installing, repairing, uninstalling the connector and the notes client I started to compare the 2 installations. One difference between the client pc and my pc was, that I had the sametime plugin installed in the note client.

So I added the sametime client to the customers pc and surprise, surprise... the quickr sidebar plugin appeared....

As the customer doesn't use sametime, I uninstalled the sametime plugin and all of a sudden the quickr sidebar disappeared again. Reinstalling sametime let the quickr sidebar reappeared.

NSFDB2

Urs Meli |   | Tags:  compact notes domino nsfdb2 db2 | Comments (6)  |  Visits (1,023)

DB2 integration is quite tricky. Converting a notes database to DB2 is simple. But the impacts can be horrible :-)
I tried it with a simple database, no problem.
A more advanced database with 350 views didn't work as expected. I was able to open the database but some views won't display.
I got a "index is corrupt...." message when I've tried to open it. Compact, fixup, updall nothing worked. I tried it with 3 different copies, all with the same result.

Either google nor the notes forum had a solution for that problem. Tomorrow I have to test it with some other databases...

Notes Vs. DB2 - Installation Battle

Urs Meli |   | Tags:  domino installation notes konfiguration db2 | Comments (2)  |  Visits (668)

Today I tested the NSFDB2. The installation was *cough* easy. The hardes part, was to find the Tutorial from last years course :-)

After 4h I got eveything up and running on my VMWare server. Setup looks like:

1 Domain Controller Win2003

1 Domino 8.0.2 Server

1 DB2 Enterprise 9.5 Server

Impressions so far:

  • My first database got corrupted, when I transfered it to the DB2.
  • When I transfered the second database, my db2 server ran out of hd space
  • After expanding the disksize, I encountered several errors 1042c, 1065n
It turned out that my db2 server lost the connection to my domain controller, therefor the db2 service account was not able to start.
Rebooting the whole VMWare server, and checking all the network configurations, everything is now ok.

I hope it works all fine now.
